Fall 2012 Chair's Welcome

Welcome to Fall 2012!

Chair's address
This year promises to be especially interesting for students in writing and rhetoric. With the presidential campaign in the final stretch, we expect many opportunities to see rhetoric and writing in action -- speeches, advertisements, political memes on Facebook and Tumblr. If you haven't done so already, be sure to sign up at the department's social media sites -- Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.

We're very proud of our course offerings and in the growth of number of majors, minors, and faculty. This semester, we have a record number of students in writing and rhetoric classes, and writing majors and minors are enrolled in courses in science writing, business writing, writing studies, new media, rhetoric studies, and creative nonfiction.  And in the winter, students have already begun signing up for global rhetorics, video game studies, web design, composition studies, and professional writing. If you haven't yet finalized your registration for winter, you can see the course list and current enrollments.
Chair's office in ODH.

If you've stopped by the fourth floor of O'Dowd, you'll notice that we're experiencing quite a bit of construction this fall. Although offices of the chair and chief adviser are currently hidden away on the fourth floor, the main office is still in 378 O'Dowd Hall, and Marsha Packer is happy to help students find their instructors and advisers.

If you have questions about coursework, course offerings, or other department issues, please feel free to set up an appointment with me.

Good luck this semester!
